Webbing dyeing is a complex and fine process. From pre-preparation to finished products, each link requires specific equipment and materials to support it. These special equipment and materials not only determine the quality and efficiency of webbing dyeing, but also affect the key performance of the product such as color and fastness. Below, we will introduce the special equipment and materials required for webbing dyeing in detail from three stages: pre-dyeing, dyeing process and post-dyeing.


1. Pre-dyeing equipment and materials

(I) Equipment

Cooking equipment: The webbing usually needs to be cooked before dyeing to remove impurities, greases and natural waxes on the surface, improve the adsorption performance of the fiber, and ensure that the dye can be dyed evenly. Common cooking equipment is a high-temperature and high-pressure cooking pot, which can quickly and effectively complete the cooking process in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment, shortening the processing time. This equipment is generally equipped with a stirring device, which can make the webbing move evenly in the cooking liquid to ensure the consistency of the cooking effect.


Rinse equipment: The webbing after cooking needs to be rinsed to remove residual boiling liquid and impurities. Rinse equipment mostly uses a water washing tank or a continuous water washing machine. The washing tank has a simple structure and is suitable for small-scale production. Through manual or mechanical stirring, the webbing is fully in contact with clean water to achieve the purpose of rinsing; the continuous washing machine has the characteristics of high automation and fast production efficiency, and is suitable for large-scale production. It can continuously rinse the webbing, saving manpower and time costs.


(II) Materials

Cooking agent: Cooking agent is an essential material during the cooking process, mainly including caustic soda, surfactant, chelating agent, etc. Caustic soda can remove natural impurities and greases from the webbing surface; surfactants have the effects of emulsification, dispersion and wetting, helping caustic soda to function better, and at the same time make impurities more easily detached from the webbing surface; chelating agents can complex metal ions in water to prevent them from causing damage to the webbing fibers and improve the cooking effect.


Clean water: The rinsing process requires a large amount of clean water, and its water quality requirements are high. Water with low hardness and no impurities should be used as much as possible to avoid the substances in the water affecting the dyeing quality of the webbing. Generally, tap water or treated soft water is used for rinsing.

2. Dyeing process equipment and materials

(I) Equipment

Dyeing machine: Dyeing machine is the core equipment for webbing dyeing. It can be divided into many types according to the dyeing process and webbing characteristics. Common ones include overflow dyeing machines, jet dyeing machines and coiling machines. The overflow dyeing machine allows the webbing to dye in a relaxed state through the overflow cycle of the dyeing liquid, which is suitable for webbing with strong dyeing sensitivity and easy to deform; the jet dyeing machine uses the high-pressure sprayed dyeing liquid to promote the webbing movement, which has high dyeing efficiency and fast dyeing liquid exchange, which can achieve rapid dyeing; the dyeing machine is suitable for small batches and multiple varieties of webbing dyeing. It winds the webbing on the reel and dyes it in the dyeing tank, and operates relatively flexible.


Temperature control equipment: Accurate temperature control is the key to ensuring dyeing quality, so dyeing machines are usually equipped with high-precision temperature control equipment. These devices can monitor the temperature of the dye liquid in real time and automatically adjust the heating or cooling device according to the dyeing process requirements to ensure that the temperature of the dye liquid is stable within the set range and avoid uneven dyeing or chromatic aberration caused by temperature fluctuations.


Agitating device: The agitating device can evenly distribute the dye liquid, promote full contact between the dye and the webbing, and improve the uniformity of dyeing. Different types of dyeing machines are equipped with different agitating devices. For example, the overflow dyeing machine achieves agitating effect through the natural overflow of the dyeing liquid, while the jet dyeing machine relies on the jet power of the dyeing liquid to drive the webbing and dyeing liquid movement to achieve the purpose of stirring.


(II) Materials

Dyes: Dyes are the core material for webbing dyeing. There are many types of webbing. Different types of webbing need to choose corresponding dyes. For example, cellulose fiber webbing such as cotton and linen are commonly dyed with reactive dyes. This dye can react chemically with the fibers and form covalent bonds, with high color fastness and bright colors; polyester webbing uses dispersed dyes, which can penetrate into the polyester fibers under high temperature and high pressure or carrier dyeing conditions to achieve good dyeing effects.


Dyeing additives: The dyeing additives play an auxiliary role in the dyeing process, which can improve the dyeing rate, uniformity and color fastness of the dye. Common dyeing aids include dyeing uniforming agents, dyeing augmenting agents, color fixing agents, etc. The dye uniform agent can evenly distribute the dye on the webbing to prevent uneven dyeing; the dye promoter can speed up the dyeing speed and improve dyeing efficiency; the color fixing agent can react with the dye, enhance the binding force between the dye and the fiber, and improve the color fastness of the dyed fabric.


3. Dyeing post-treatment equipment and materials

(I) Equipment

Water washing equipment: The dyed webbing needs to be washed water to remove residual dyes and additives on the surface. Water washing equipment is similar to pre-treatment rinsing equipment, including a water washing tank and a continuous water washing machine. By washing multiple times, ensure that the webbing surface is clean and avoid residual substances affecting the webbing color fastness and feel.


Dehydration equipment: The washed webbing contains a lot of water and needs to be dehydrated. Common dehydration equipment include centrifugal dehydrators and filter press dehydrators. The centrifugal dehydrator uses the centrifugal force generated by high-speed rotation to throw out the moisture in the webbing; the filter press dehydrator extrudes the moisture from the webbing through pressure. Both equipment can effectively remove the moisture in the webbing and prepare for the subsequent drying process.


Drying equipment: The dehydrated webbing needs to be dried to achieve the specified moisture content. The main drying equipment includes hot air dryers and drum dryers. The hot air dryer circulates through hot air to quickly dry the webbing under the blowing of hot air; the drying drum dryer uses the heated drying drum to contact the webbing to evaporate the moisture and achieve the purpose of drying.


(II) Materials

Detergent: Detergent is required during the washing process to more effectively remove dyes and additives remaining on the webbing surface. Detergents should be selected for mild, highly detergents and non-damage to the webbing color and material, such as neutral detergents.


Softener: To improve the feel of the webbing and make it softer and more comfortable, softener is usually used during the dyeing and post-treatment process. The softener can form a protective film on the webbing surface, reducing friction between fibers and improving the softness and smoothness of the webbing.
